Terms of Service

Last updated: May 19, 2026 · Loot Marketplace Inc. · Toronto, Ontario

By creating a Loot account or using the Loot platform, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them. They're written in plain language because we're students, not lawyers.

1. Who can use Loot

Loot is available to students who hold an active institutional email address from a supported Canadian university or college. You must be at least 17 years old. By signing up, you confirm that the .ca email you register with was issued to you by your institution and that you are currently enrolled.

2. Your account

You are responsible for your account. Keep your password secure. Don't share your account. Don't create multiple accounts. If someone else uses your account and causes harm, you're responsible.

Your account is personal and non-transferable. Selling or transferring your Loot account to someone else is not permitted.

3. What you can list

You may list physical items that you personally own and have the right to sell, rent, or trade. Listings must be honest and accurate. Photos must represent the actual item.

Prohibited listings include (but are not limited to):

  • Controlled substances, drugs, or drug paraphernalia
  • Alcohol or tobacco products
  • Weapons, including replica weapons
  • Counterfeit or stolen goods
  • Digital goods, accounts, or subscriptions
  • Services (tutoring, etc.) — Loot is for physical goods only at this time
  • Anything illegal under Canadian federal or provincial law
  • Adult content of any kind

Loot reserves the right to remove any listing at any time for any reason.

4. Transactions between users

Loot is a marketplace platform. We are not a party to any transaction between users. We do not process payments, hold funds, guarantee the quality of items, or facilitate returns or refunds.

All transactions are directly between buyer and seller. By using Loot, you acknowledge that Loot has no liability for disputes between users, items not as described, no-shows, or payment disagreements.

5. User conduct

You agree not to:

  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
  • Post false, misleading, or fraudulent listings
  • Attempt to circumvent the verification system
  • Use the platform for any commercial or business purpose
  • Scrape, crawl, or extract data from Loot
  • Attempt to access another user's account
  • Use Loot to facilitate transactions outside the platform to avoid community accountability

6. Ratings and reviews

Ratings and reviews must be honest, based on your personal experience, and not used to manipulate or harm other users. Fake ratings — whether positive self-reviews or malicious negative reviews — result in account suspension.

7. Intellectual property

You retain ownership of photos and content you post. By posting them, you grant Loot a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display your content within the platform. We will not sell your photos or use them in advertising without your explicit consent.

8. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms. You may delete your account at any time through the app settings. Certain provisions of these Terms survive termination.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Loot is provided "as is." We make no warranties about uptime, accuracy of listings, or the conduct of other users. To the maximum extent permitted by Ontario law, Loot's total liability for any claim arising from your use of the platform is limited to CAD $0 — because we charge you nothing.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ontario.

11. Changes to these Terms

We'll notify you by email and in-app before making material changes. Continued use of Loot after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
