These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Loot platform, the mobile app and website at lootapp.ca, operated by Loot ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using Loot, you agree to these Terms.
You must be a current student or staff member of a Canadian university or college to create an account. You must be at least 16 years old and provide a valid institutional email address that we can verify. Attempting to gain access using a fraudulent or borrowed email address is grounds for immediate account termination.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password. You may only have one active account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent a suspension or ban is prohibited. Notify us immediately at support@lootapp.ca if you suspect unauthorised use.
As a seller, you represent that you own the item, it is accurately described (including defects), it is legal to sell in Canada, and photos represent the actual item. Prohibited listings include: illegal items, prescription medications, weapons, counterfeit goods, sexually explicit material, live animals, and items you don't own. Loot reserves the right to remove any listing that violates these Terms.
Loot facilitates connections between buyers and sellers and supports in-app payments via Stripe. For in-app transactions, Loot acts as a payment intermediary; funds are held by Stripe until the buyer confirms the transaction. For cash or e-transfer transactions agreed directly between users, Loot is not a party to the transaction and is not responsible for the outcome. Loot is not responsible for the quality, safety, or legality of any listed item, regardless of payment method. Meet only in safe, public, on-campus locations.
Loot is free to list, browse, and message. The free plan includes up to 10 active listings. When a buyer pays through Loot, an 8% platform fee is deducted from the seller's payout (buyer protection included) on every in-app payment. You pay the listed price. Loot Pro ($10/month, coming soon) reduces the platform fee to 4% and increases listing capacity. Cash and e-transfer transactions between users are always fee-free and carry no buyer protection.
You agree not to: harass or threaten other users; post false or misleading information; manipulate ratings or reviews; use Loot for commercial business purposes (personal items only); scrape or redistribute Loot content; or attempt to circumvent our verification systems.
Ratings must reflect genuine transaction experiences. Fake reviews, review swaps, or coercing someone to change their review are prohibited. Loot may remove reviews that violate these standards.
You retain ownership of content you post. By posting, you grant Loot a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display that content as part of operating the platform. We will not use your content for advertising without consent. The Loot name, logo, and brand are ours, don't use them without written permission.
Loot is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Loot is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Loot's total liability for any claim shall not exceed CAD $100.
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violations of these Terms, with or without notice. You may delete your account at any time through Settings.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction in Canada.
