Rent from verified students.

Why buy something you need for one semester? Rent it from a classmate and save the money.

Four steps from
search to pickup.

01

Find a rental listing

Filter by "Rent" in search to see only rental listings. Every rental listing shows the price per period (day, week, or semester) and available dates set by the owner.

02

Message the owner

Agree on the exact duration, pickup spot, and return terms in the app chat. Everything stays in Loot, no need to exchange personal contact info.

03

Pay through Loot

In-app payment holds the rental fee securely via Stripe. The owner's payout is released when you confirm receipt. Buyer protection applies to in-app rental payments.

04

Return it when you're done

Same meetup spot, agreed condition, same person. Rate each other after, rental ratings are tracked separately from sale ratings and help build trust on both sides.

Six things worth
renting instead of buying.

01

Calculators

Need a TI-Nspire for one course? Rent one for the semester instead of paying $170 for a calculator you'll use in exactly one class.

02

Formal wear

Suit or dress for one formal night. Rent it, return it, spend the savings on literally anything else. Formal season is short, no reason to own it.

03

Monitors

Working a co-op term and need a second screen for 4 months? Renting a monitor for a work term is significantly cheaper than buying one you'll need to lug home.

04

Cameras & Equipment

For one project, one presentation, one night. A DSLR or ring light for a class assignment, rent it for the week instead of buying for a single use.

05

Textbooks

The original rental use case. Pay for the semester, return when you're done. Most students recoup more renting out their textbooks than selling them outright.

06

Sports & Outdoor Gear

Skis, camping gear, bikes, hockey equipment, things you use once a year. Renting from a student who already owns it beats paying full price for seasonal gear.

List your things
for rent.

Your calculator sits in a drawer for 8 months of the year. Your formal suit has been worn twice. These things can earn money between your own uses.

How rental deposits work.

Loot supports in-app security deposit holds via Stripe in V1. The deposit amount is agreed between renter and owner in the app chat before the meetup. Rental fee payments are covered by buyer protection. Deposits are released when the item is returned in agreed condition, if there's a dispute about damage, open a case with support@lootapp.ca.
