Yes. Creating an account, browsing, and messaging are free, always. The free plan includes up to 10 active listings. When a buyer pays through Loot, an 8% platform fee is deducted from the seller's payout (buyer protection included). You pay the listed price. No fee on trades, cash, or e-transfer.
Loot Pro is coming soon ($10/month). It lowers the in-app transaction fee from 8% to 4%, increases your listing cap to 25, and adds analytics, boosted placement, and a Pro badge. It exists to keep Loot independent and ad-free, not as a cash grab. See full comparison →
Loot launches at McMaster University in Fall 2026. We're expanding to universities and colleges across Canada starting in 2027. Join the waitlist and we'll email you the moment Loot opens at your school. The more signups we see from a school, the faster we go there.
Textbooks, electronics, furniture, clothing, sports equipment, appliances, school supplies, and anything else a student might reasonably buy, sell, or rent. Items must be legal, honestly described, and yours to sell. No replicas, no prescription medications, no weapons.
We're targeting Fall 2026, specifically the start of the McMaster academic year. Join the waitlist for early access before the public launch.
Your official university or college email. For McMaster, use @mcmaster.ca, @student.mcmaster.ca, or @mail.mcmaster.ca. We expand accepted domains as we launch at new schools. If your school email isn't working, email us and we'll sort it out.
Yes. You re-verify with your university email once a year. This keeps the marketplace clean: accounts belonging to students who've graduated or left can't stay active indefinitely. It takes one click when your annual prompt comes up. In certain cases, such as a dispute, a flagged account, or a high-value transaction, we may request additional ID verification.
Check your junk/spam folder. University email filters are aggressive. If it's not there after a few minutes, use "Resend verification email" on the verification screen. Still nothing? Email support@lootapp.ca.
Pay through Loot via Stripe at checkout. Your payment is held until you enter the seller's confirmation code. You pay the listed price; sellers cover the platform fee. Buyer protection is included automatically. Cash and e-transfer are allowed off-platform with no fee and no protection.
Leave an honest rating and report the user. No-shows are a serious breach of community standards. Patterns of no-shows result in account suspension. Repeat offenders are permanently banned. Verified accounts have real reputations on the line.
Always inspect items before paying. If something isn't right, you're under no obligation to complete the transaction. If you've already paid through Loot and feel misled, open a dispute in the app. Cash and e-transfer deals are not covered.
Sellers mark a listing as "Rent" and set a price per day, week, or month, with available dates. Terms (duration, deposit, condition) are agreed in chat. Return logistics are handled between the two parties. We recommend using the same spot for pickup and return.
Your display name, university, rating, review count, active listings, and join date. Your email address and phone number are never shown to other users.
Yes. Settings → Account → Delete account. Deletion is permanent and removes all your listings and messages. If you just want a break, archive your listings instead.
